Sweet corn is a "treasure" crop — it serves as grain, fruit, vegetable, and feed. It’s rich in soluble polysaccharides, essential amino acids, proteins, sugars, and various vitamins, making it a favorite among consumers. With the development of hybrid varieties, sweet corn cultivation has rapidly expanded in recent years. In 2022, China’s total sweet corn planting area reached nearly 5 million mu, ranking second in the world after the U.S.

As living standards improve, sweet corn processing enterprises grow, and export trade flourishes, the demand for sweet corn is rising, and the planting area is expected to continue expanding. However, surveys show that sweet corn cultivation often involves frequent and excessive fertilization, resulting in low nutrient use efficiency, increased costs, reduced profitability, and heightened environmental risks.
