Ginger, also known as "large ginger", is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Zingiberaceae family, originally native to Southeast Asia. In China, ginger is an important economic crop, widely cultivated in both northern and southern regions. Its rhizomes are valued for both culinary and medicinal uses, giving it significant agricultural and everyday relevance.
Weifang, Shandong Province, is one of China's key ginger-producing regions, with a long cultivation history and high-quality output. Local farmers also possess relatively advanced cultivation techniques. However, current fertilization practices in the region are often unregulated, leading to increased costs and common issues such as seedling burn and ginger root burn, which negatively impact both yield and quality.

ENTEC® compound fertilizer, with its unique production technology and nitrification inhibitor treatment, slowly dissolves and effectively controls the conversion of ammonium nitrogen into nitrate nitrogen. It supplies both forms of nitrogen, supporting ginger through the transition from vegetative to reproductive growth. This dual action satisfies the plant's rapid nitrogen uptake needs while significantly reducing nitrate leaching. ENTEC® is also soil-friendly, avoiding soil acidification even with continuous use. It contains no biuret, and its hard granules release nutrients gradually, ensuring high nutrient uptake efficiency and root safety.
This study focuses on how ENTEC® affects ginger yield and economic return, aiming to improve farmer income through scientific fertilization guidance.
The trial was conducted from March to October 2024 in Changyi City, Weifang, Shandong Province. Two plots were used — one ENTEC® demonstration plot and one control plot, each 2 mu in size. Both received base fertilizer on March 20, 2024, and harvest/yield measurement was done on October 10, 2024. The fertilization plan is shown below:

(Note: Fertilizer application units are in kg/mu)
The ENTEC® treatment clearly promoted better plant development. Compared to the control, ENTEC® increased stem diameter by 8% and plant height by 12%, with earlier canopy closure and visibly more vigorous growth.

The theoretical yield was calculated as:
ENTEC® resulted in a 19.6% yield increase.

📌 Note: Theoretical yield = Avg yield per plant × number of plants per mu (3900) × emergence rate (97%)
Based on an average ginger purchase price of 5 yuan/kg, the ENTEC® plan delivered an additional income of 7,158 yuan per mu.

This study shows that ENTEC® fertilization leads to healthier early-stage growth, with significantly greater stem thickness and plant height. There were no signs of premature aging later in the growing season, and yield increased by 19.6% compared to the control. At the same time, fertilizer costs decreased, resulting in an additional net profit of 7,158 yuan per mu.
In conclusion, ENTEC® compound fertilizer offers clear advantages in ginger cultivation and is highly recommended for broader adoption in major ginger-producing regions.
